Creative Leadlight and Art Classes
About Me, (Lynne)
My artistic life started in the Highlands of Scotland where we lived
for 15 years. Initially I painted for my own pleasure which lead to
commissions.
I have had many commissions over the years and always say "I will
only give it to you if I am 100% happy with the finished result".
My current commission is a very much loved pet Rat who has passed away!
After emigrating to NZ in 1986 I spent 5 years in the Occupational Therapy
room of the acute the Psych Unit. Providing art and craft to patients
often at their lowest point in their lives and seeing the lift in their
mood and small spark in their eye. Following this I transferred to the
Hastings Community Mental Health Center, and continued empowering people
to be creative and try new things for a further two and a half years.
13 years ago I was employed by Presbyterian Support to create a new
holistic health service called The Beacon, for 40 attending people each
week who have physical illnesses. I have always sort to not just keep people
occupied, but to teach them new skills. We have a wide range of courses
available from upholstery to most art and craft with people growing in
confidence and expertise resulting in them being willing to take bigger
risks in their life.
I slid into book illustrating two years ago after writing and illustrating a
true story for my Grandchildren called 'The Cat who lived in the airing cupboard'.
I showed it to a couple who were staying with us for B&B accommodation. It
turned out that she was an Author of children's books and offered me the job
of illustrating her next book called ‘Grace the Gannet' with 18 paintings in it.
This was published in August 2011. Next was the front cover painting for a self
help book written by The Beacon clients, called ‘Sucking on the lemon of life.
It has sold over 500 copies and the painting depicts the huge energy that pours
out of the building. Lastly, a tiny book written by a 5 year old little boy 'The
little green Boat'. No money changed hands. We did green dollars and his Nanny
baked me some Christmas goodies in payment for the paintings.
I am currently completing the paintings for my 2nd book 'Just another working day'.
This is a day in the life in our little fat Pug dog called Gizzy a K9 Therapist.
I enjoy bringing Art to the public.
As part of my role as Manager of The Beacon ,organizing an exhibition of clients
Pottery which was created at work gave me a big buzz. The excitement leading up
to it and seeing their pieces sell was a great experience for all of us .
I am very proud of an Art exhibition I and fellow health professionals staged in 2006
called O.U.C.H. It was very cutting edge and provoked strong emotion in the huge amount
of people who flocked to see it. It took 2 years in the making of the exhibits and became
one of the most successful and talked about Exhibitions in the Art Gallery's history.
The Parsonage proudly presents its Art and Crafts Teaching Studio.
Set in the tropical garden of the old house, It is a beautiful setting to
try a new experience, which promotes creativity and fun.
